Mojo Review: Crosby, Stills and Nash

Crosby, Stills and Nash CSN 2012 DVD/BR

Mojo Magazine, Ross Bennett

The trio roll out their hits on their 2012 world tour.

The last decade has been good to David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash. Their last DVD outing with Neil Young in 2008's CSNY's Déjà Vu was a compelling anti-war document of a group who still believe in the power of music to facilitate change.  Four years on and CSN continues to play to their greatest strengths. Stills' biting Robbie Robertson-esque lead, Nash's bell-like vocals and Crosby's jazzy rhythm guitar all weave together to form a zephyr of blissed-out rock, folk, blues and harmony. Best of all is an inspired encore finale of Suite: Judy Blue Eyes. Not only the song that introduced them to the world in 1969, but on this occasion a song they haven't played live "in a very, very, very long time". The look of wonder between Crosby and Nash after nailing the first few lines is priceless.
